09 - MONUMENTAL OAK

LISTEN TO THE STORY

MONUMENTAL OAK

Aged about 400 years, it is the most important tree in the park. Protected by the forest nymphs from human and natural threats, it has developed a majestic and regal canopy. Already present when the Castiglioni family arrived, it witnessed their happiest and most difficult moments, epochal changes, and the advent of modernity. In the family tradition, an oak was planted at the birth of a firstborn, symbolizing strength and courage. This and other trees in the Park are now being studied by APAM – Agency for Innovation in the Agri-Food and Fisheries Sector and the University of Camerino, as part of a project to rediscover oak acorns as a food resource for oil extraction and flour production.
